Shani Shanti Nivaran Mantra..
Shani is a Deva and son of Surya and his wife Chhaya, hence also known as Chayyaputra. He is the elder brother of Yama, the Hindu god of death, who in some scriptures corresponds to the deliverance of justice. Surya’s two sons Shani dev and Yama judge. Shani dev gives the results of one’s deeds through one’s life through appropriate punishments and rewards; Yama grants the results of one’s deeds after death.
It is said that when Shani dev opened his eyes as a baby for the very first time, the sun went into an eclipse, which clearly denotes the impact of Shani dev on astrological charts. He is known as the greatest teacher and well wisher for the righteous as well the greatest punisher for those who follow the path of evil, betrayal, backstabbing and unjust revenge. Shani is also known as the lord of masses & God of Punishment and his blessings are thus considered very important in an individual’s horoscope for bestowing him with mass following and popularity. He is depicted dark in colour, clothed in black; holding a sword, arrows and two daggers and mounted on a crow, which is Shani’s vahana. As protector of property, Shani dev is able to repress the thieving tendencies of birds.
I have also provided the Powerful Shani Kavach Mantra and certain procedures related to it in my video, so that my clients can be blessed with Shani and get protection from Shani Dev’s prakop.
In Hindu society, it is habitual to give Shani dev a bath in til oil. But not many know the reason behind it. Here’s a short story which sheds some light on this mystery.
As per Hindu epic Ramayana, when the bridge was constructed from Rameswaram to Lanka by Ram’s army, Hanumanji had the responsibility of looking after the security of the bridge, lest the enemy damage it.
One day, as Hanumanji sat under the trees and offered prayers to Lord Rama, Shanidev approached him and said, “I am the powerful Shani Dev! I heard you are also powerful, so I want to test your might with mine. So, open your eyes and fight with me.”
In response to Shanidev, Hanumanji opened his eyes and said, “Now, I am meditating upon my lord. I request you not to disturb me in my prayers and to leave me alone.”
However, Lord Shani Dev appears keen on picking a fight. So, Hanumanji stretches out his tail and starts tying up Shani Dev with it, slowly tightening the coiled tail. Though Lord Shani Dev tries to free himself, he is unable to do so. When Hanuman moves his tail up and down, hitting Shanidev against the bridge, the latter starts bleeding.
When his pain becomes unbearable, Lord Shani requests Hanuman: “Please release me. I will never repeat a similar mistake again!” Hanumanji replies, “Only if you promise never to afflict Ram’s devotees ever in the future, will I let you go.” In great pain, Shani Dev promises Hanumanji, “I will do as you say. I will never interfere in the destiny of those devoted to you or Ram.”
When Shanidev is set free, he asks Hanuman, “Could you give me some oil to relieve my wretched pain?” Indeed, Hanuman gives Shani Dev the oil, only after applying which, Shani Dev is relieved of his pain.
Since then, it has become customary to offer oil to Shanidev. It is symbolic of soothing of all pains. It is further believed that having overcome his pain, Shanidev – otherwise much feared – becomes benevolent towards his devotee.
Remedies To Impress Shani Dev
Donating mustard oil is regarded as one of the best remedies to impress Shani Dev. Of course, the best day to do so is on Saturday, Shani Dev’s day. On Saturdays, before sunrise if possible, approach a peepal tree (revered by Hindus) and pour mustard oil on a branch of the tree. You can also offer black sesame seeds (kala til).
Shani Dev loves to help the poor and needy. You can do the same and seek his favours. Donate money or clothes, especially on a Saturday. You can also give a piece of black cloth to the poor and needy.
Lord Hanuman is one of the remedies to impress Shani Dev. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Hanuman saved Shani from the clutches of Ravana in the Ramayana. Lord Shani promised to reduce the malefic affects of Shani on individuals if they worshipped Lord Hanuman.
Being honest in life, avoiding bribing or hurting people, is one lesson every individual should keep in mind.
