Product Name : Dakshinavarti Shankh
Price : 400 $
Dakshinavarti Shankh, or Sri Lakshmi Shankh or Valampuri, is a sacred Hindu object otherwise known in English as a conch shell. This is the shell of a large sea snail from the Indian Ocean, of the species Turbinella pyrum, but one that has the very rare reverse-turning spiral.
In other words, when it is held with the spout (siphonal canal) pointed up, this conch’s spiral twists rightwards (dakshinavarti) rather than very much more common form, which twists leftwards (vamavarti).
Shape and size
Dakshinavarti Shankh looks like any normal conch shell but it has a reverse-turning spiral, the conch spiral twists rightwards rather than leftwards. This difference in direction of twist differentiates it from other conch shells.
Dakshinavarti Shankh are of various sizes and colour. There colour ranges from white to brown. Some shankhs come in spirals while some are not.
The size of Dakshinavrti Shankh varies; they may be 1 inch to a few feet long. Prices of Dakshinavarti Shankh accordingly change. Larger the shankh greater is the price.
Real Dakshinavarti Shankh or Lakshmi Conch or Valampuri (right side spinning) are estimated to occur only one per 100,000 conch shells. The shell of the lightning whelk on the other hand almost always opens on the right. Valampuries with five plaits or folds in its cavity are known as ‘Panchajanya’ and are very rare. Completely snow-white Valampuries are also very rare and expensive. Giant Valampuries more than 5 Kg are extremely rare in occurrence. Valampuries more than 3 feet in length are reported.
Significance and Benefits
